The FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund is an initiative that aims to raise USD $100 million to provide access to quality education and football for children around the world. The new fund will provide targeted support to organisations across the globe dedicated to improving education for children.

The landmark initiative will inspire new commitments from philanthropies, businesses, and individuals, and comes following the announcement of the impactful and engaging four-year partnership between FIFA and Global Citizen made at last September’s Global Citizen Festival in New York.

Some of the funds will also be allocated to the FIFA Football for Schools (F4S) programme, a FIFA and UNESCO led initiative that advances life skills, learning, and community development through football around the world.

What is the Football for Schools Program?

Football for Schools (F4S) is an ambitious programme run by FIFA, in collaboration with UNESCO, which aims to contribute to the education, development and empowerment of around 700 million children. It seeks to make football more accessible to both boys and girls around the world by incorporating football activities into the education system, in partnership with relevant authorities and stakeholders. The programme has been designed to promote targeted life skills and competencies through football and contribute to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other priorities.

How does funding work?

The FIFA Global Citizen Education fund is managed by Global Citizen. Finances from the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund will be granted into grassroots programmes in over 200 countries.

50% of the funds will be allocated to the FIFA Football for Schools (F4S) programme, a FIFA and UNESCO led initiative that advances life skills, learning, and community development through football around the world.

50% of funds will be allocated to a public call for applications managed by Global Citizen. This process will be open to registered legal entities that can legally accept grants from a US-based 501c(3), with grants typically ranging from USD50,000 to USD250,000. Full details on application process and criteria will be published by Global Citizen in the coming months, with all funds disbursed within two years of the 2026 World Cup Final.

How are funds monitored?

Global Citizen conducts comprehensive vetting, third-party due diligence, and regular monitoring of all funded projects.

How is it governed?

The FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund is managed by Global Citizen, with support from a Fund Oversight Advisory Committee, composed of six distinguished members to be announced in mid-2025.
